NEW
HOME FOR RAINBOW CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Rainbow
Child Development Center's board of directors announces the
Center is in the process of negotiating to buy the Edward Street
Day Care
building at 10 Edward Street as the
new home for the Center. The building
will house the administrative offices
and the Center's preschool program.
The building, formerly the home of
the Edward Street Day Care,
became available when the Edward
Street corporation determined they
would
no longer provide direct
services. For Rainbow, the building allows our Center to remain
in the
Plumley/Belmont Hill neighborhood, an important consideration in
our relocation efforts. Closing date has not been determined at
this time. Anticipated moving date will not be until late spring/early
summer.
Strategic
Planning for the Future
This past spring, members of the Board of Directors and staff members
met with facilitator, Joseph Tancrell, Executive Director of JET
Associates, in a series of meetings to review the Center's current
strategic plan and to develop and implement the plan to meet our
current and future objectives for the next several years. Our past
goals as well as our future goals continue to center around quality
programming, building a sound financial base and continuing to identify
leaders in the community who will become committed to assisting
the agency in carrying out its mission. In recognizing that the
Center has been at the crossroads in its need to make some serious
decisions about its current and future facility needs, the plan
initiated a fourth goal to develop a facilities plan. In June, the
Board of
Directors approved "Strategic Plan 2002." The goals as
stated in the plan are:
FACILITIES
To develop a specific plan to meet current and future facility needs
of Rainbow Child Development Center as outlined in the strategic
plan in accordance with our mission statement and in compliance
with governmental regulations and accreditation agencies.
PROGRAM
To continue to explore and evaluate opportunities for program expansion
by building on current strengths and developing and marketing on
non-traditional innovative services through a competent, professionally
developed bilingual and multicultural staff.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS DEVELOPMENT
To identify, attract and maintain a diverse board of directors comprised
of committed individuals who exhibit community leadership and who
collectively contribute a wide array of skills to ensure an active,
involved, responsible board dedicated to the mission of the organization.
FUND RAISING
To raise funds for the expansion of facilities through capital campaigns
and to continue current fund raising activities for operational
needs through grants, fund raising events, and financial and in-kind
service donations.

Over
160 people celebrated Rainbow's
30th anniversary at our second
annual signature event held on April
26th at the Wachusett Country Club. One hundred fifteen items were
included in the silent and live auction all of which were donated
by area businesses and community people. Funds raised benefited
the programs and services provided to the children who attend the
Center. Highlights of the event included the live auction of the
painting that was drawn and painted by a classroom
of preschool children under the direction of their classroom teacher
and artist, Claudette Rosenbusch. The classroom painting has become
a special feature of our "signature" event. To everyone
who attended and/or donated an auction item, we thank you all for
your support.

SAVE THE DATE
Plans are underway for our 3rd annual event to be held on Friday,
April 25, 2003 at Wachusett Country Club. For further information
about the event, or to be put on the mailing list to receive
an invitation, or to donate an auction item, please call Barbara
Guthrie at Rainbow (508-791- 6849) or Rosemarie Boyd, Event Chair,
at Boyd Financial Strategies (508-754-3226). We look
forward to seeing everyone on April 25, 2003!
