Whats
New At The School Age Program?
What
a difference a couple of months makes. Our enrollment numbers have
increased from 52 to 59. The program has been re-licensed to enroll
67 children. Even though we have added more children, our quality
care has remained the same.
Over
the last six months we have gone on numerous field trips. In early
October we took a journey to George Hill Apple Orchards in Lancaster
MA where the children got to go on a hayride, pick apples and enjoy
hot apple cider. In November we took a ride once again out to Lancaster
MA to Roll-on-America (roller skating). Even though some of the
staff took some big falls the children enjoyed the day. We also
went to the Boston Museum of Science. Over the Christmas break we
saw a movie, Johnny Neutron, and we ventured to the
Discovery Museum in Boston. The children got to experience hands
on activities such as climbing walls, bubble making as well as receive
a realistic view of science. During February vacation the children
went to the Boston Aquarium (IMAX THEATRE) and enjoyed a 3-d movie,
In to Deep, (under water experience). We once again
went to the movies and enjoyed Big Fat Liar. Other trips
included a visit to the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield
where the children learned the history of basketball and participated
in a shoot around and a trip to the bowling alley.,
Besides
the field trips, the children are still improving in academic areas.
Each week we have up to five different volunteers come in and help
with homework. The volunteers are from Assumption College, Notre
Dame Academy, Dynamy (after high school program) and the community..
We are still putting our best foot forward to help the children
achieve in school. The program emphasizes everyday that homework
is the most important part of our program.
Since
December the After School Program has been getting ready for a Destination
Imagination competition to be held at Sutton High School on
March 16th. The program tests the childrens skills in instant
challenges. Our children will participate in the Art of Improv.
The children have been working hard over the last couple of months
to be ready for the big day on March 16th to show off their talents.
The
school year is more than half over so some of our thoughts are now
focused on the Summer. We will once again pack up and move out to
Treasure Valley in Paxton for an exciting summer camp program.
